India off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin couldn’t believe it and captain Rohit Sharma put his hands on his head as Virat Kohli dropped an absolute seamer in the World T20 match against South Africa on Sunday. All Kohli had to do was catch the ball when Aiden Markram’s ball came straight to him; however, the former India captain failed in his first attempt and narrowly missed a delivery in the second.
Even after the fielder gave it back to the keeper, Ashwin was stunned as he stared at Kohli. Kohli, on the other hand, smiled wryly after the drop.
Rohit Sharma’s Reaction:
India missed a chance to make a comeback in the game as Aiden Markram bowled 31 off 35 deliveries and formed a dangerous looking partnership with David Miller.
To add to Ashwin’s woes, he was hit for a six by Aiden Markram in the next over as the off-spinner conceded 17 in six deliveries.
Earlier in the game, India were restricted to 133/9 in 20 overs after a South African attack led by Lungi Ngidi. Ngidi dispatched India’s top three of KL Rahul (9), Rohit Sharma (15) and Virat Kohli (12) to put the side under immediate pressure before Suryakumar Yadav did well to take India to a respectable result in the game. .
The 31-year-old batsman scored 68 off 40 deliveries, hitting six fours and three sixes en route to a stalemate.
India are currently top of Group 2 of the Super 12s with four points from two games in the T20 World Cup, having previously beaten Pakistan and Zimbabwe. However, a loss to the Proteas would drop them to second place; South Africa have collected three points from two matches, their first game against Zimbabwe was washed out.
