Virat Kohli is in great form in the T20 World Cup. He hit half-centuries against Pakistan and Netherlands, and the Indian team won on both occasions. The 33-year-old scored 62 runs off 44 balls as India cruised to a 56-run win against the Netherlands on Thursday. He has scored a total of 144 goals in just two matches in the tournament so far.
With his scintillating knock against the European nation, Kohli moved past West Indies legend Chris Gayle to become the highest scorer in the T20 World Cup. The right-handed batsman has scored 989 runs in 23 matches and is just 28 runs short of breaking Sri Lanka’s Mahela Jayawardene’s record. Given Kohli’s superb form, he will also overtake Jayawardene, who is the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup tournaments with 1,016 runs from 31 matches, in the third game of the tournament against South Africa in Perth on Sunday. Kohli is just 28 runs short of breaking the record.
