Failed to repeat the show against South Africa in the Super 12 encounter at the World T20 in Perth on Sunday. India’s talismanic batsman was stuffed by the bowling of Lungi Ngidi at a cheap rate of 12 to 11. However, despite his early dismissal, Kohli achieved another feat as he became the fastest and only Indian to complete 1000 runs in the T20 World Cup. Kohli was dismissed in the fifth ball of the seventh over, the bowler hit it short and Kohli tried to pull it. However, he failed to get the required connection as Rabada ended up taking a sharp catch, much to the dismay of the Indian fans.
Kohli took 24 matches to complete the feat and in doing so, he also surpassed Sri Lankan legend Mahela Jayawardene to top the chart. The former skipper of the Sri Lanka team achieved this result in 31 matches.
Apart from the show against the Proteas, Kohli also ran the show in the ongoing edition in Australia. He began his campaign against rivals Pakistan on an 82-match winning streak as India beat them in a last-ball thriller.
